  • Erich Avinger throughout this disc proves to be a fine fusion guitarist. His playing is more rock than jazz-oriented, but he is a solid improviser. Four songs were recorded live with a quartet with pianist Doug Hall, while four other songs were cut in the studio with an unusual septet also including tabla, harmonica, violin, bansuri flute, tamboura, and percussion. In addition to his guitars, Avinger plays bansuri flute and ney. The folk-oriented music has a strong world music flavor with the harmonica being a wild card, and gives Avinger an opportunity to show off his versatility. ~ Scott Yanow
